Education Award Opportunity for Dharma School Seniors
Calling All Graduating Dharma School Seniors - Class of 2024:
You are invited to apply for the Buddhist Church of Sacramento (BCS) Education Award. This award is available to high school seniors who are dependents of dues paying church members and currently enrolled in Dharma School (or a Teacher's Assistant). This award is meant to help fund education or training after high school by recognizing students who can clearly express what they have gained in being a part of the Buddhist Church of Sacramento and share their understanding of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism. It recognizes enrollment in Dharma School and other BCS sponsored or affiliated organizations and your participation and contributions are highly valued and considered in the application review process.
The Education Award is a competitive process that uses a scoring system to evaluate each applicant on five items:
1) an application
2) a written personal statement
3) a personal video
4) a letter of recommendation from a BCS organization leader, and
5) a formal interview.
Items 1 - 4 must be submitted electronically by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2024. Any items that are not received by the deadline will be considered missing and receive a score of zero (0) for that item. Interviews will be held in-person at the Buddhist Church of Sacramento, currently scheduled for Saturday May 4, 2024. Your actual interview time will be sent to you by email no later than April 30. Should you be selected to receive an award, you will be invited to participate in the Dharma Service and Award Ceremony on Sunday, June 2.
