Tanoshimi Kai: Senior Luncheon (Ages 60+)
Join us for Tanoshimi-Kai, a weekly senior luncheon at the temple for seniors (60+) in partnership with Meals on Wheels. Meals for seniors are free with an optional donation and feature a rotation of Japanese inspired meals.
Family Dharma Service
Join us for our weekly Sunday Dharma service in the Main Hondo of the temple. Our services are recorded and livestreamed on our Facebook and YouTube pages.
The Dharma talk for this service will be given by Rev. Matt Hamasaki.

On the first Wednesday of each month, join us for this special service with a Dharma Talk by our Rimban, Rev. Yuki Sugahara. We started this special weekday service with our Seniors in mind ~ a little less crowded and offered in Japanese, as well as English. All ages are welcome! Please stay for refreshments and fellowship in Classrooms 1 & 4 immediately following service.

Sacramento Bonsai Club 78th Annual Show
Join our long-time community partner, the Sacramento Bonsai Club, the oldest club in the United States, having been founded in 1946! Enjoy the beauty and artistry of Bonsai and Suiseki (viewing stones), attend a workshop, view a demonstration by Instructor Sam Adina…perhaps make a purchase or two. Hope to see you here!

Monthly Chanting Service
Start your day with the chanting of Shoshin Nembutsu-Ge (Shoshinge), Hymn of True Shinjin, and the Nembutsu, led by Rev. Yuki Sugahara. We meet in the Main Hondo; please join us afterward for coffee and fellowship in the Library.
Sacramento Dharma no Kai with Rev. Yuki
Monthly class that focuses on the reading of Tannisho, a two-part work representing a compilation of teachings by Shinran. At each session, parts of Tannisho will be discussed with commentary from scholars. Class is conducted in Japanese.

125th Anniversary: Cars & Coffee
The Buddhist Church of Sacramento will host our 125th Anniversary Cars & Coffee event in our interior parking lot. Free coffee and pastries. No registration is needed.
Gotanye Service
The traditional music service and ochigo procession will be held at our Gotan-E service in observance of Shinran Shonin’s birthday. Shinran Shonin is the founder of Jodo Shinshu (Shin) Buddhism. Signifying Shinran’s entering the Shoren-In Temple to become a monk at age 9, our third grade Dharma School students will participate in the ochigo procession.
Please join us as we welcome Special Guest Speaker, Bishop Tatsuya Aoki, of the Jodo Shinshu Buddhist Temples of Canada.

12th Oldies-But-Goodies Dance Spring Fling!
Hosted by our Adult Buddhist Association and DJ-ed by “Dr. Don” Kazama who will play music from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s! Pupus and hosted refreshments will be provided. If you have 8 or more in your group, you can reserve a table.
Masks are not required, but recommended. All attendees must be vaccinated and boosted. Maximum number of attendees will be 200.

Hanamatsuri Service
Hanamatsuri commemorates the birth of Prince Siddhartha Gautama, who became the historical Sakyamuni Buddha. The Hanamido, or flower shrine, is a symbol of Lumbini Garden, the place of his birth. According to the ancient legend, the universe was filled with joyful music, flowers bloomed in full glory and sweet rain fell to make this a joyful event.
During this special service, the Sangha offers flowers and pours sweet tea over the statuette of the infant Buddha within the Hanamido. Please join us as we welcome Special Guest Speaker, Professor Mark Unno, University of Oregon.

Family Dharma Service and Shotsuki Hoyo Service
On the first Sunday of every month, we observe a special memorial service known as Shotsuki Hoyo. This service is dedicated as a time to remember and express gratitude for our family members and friends who have passed away during the month of the year in which the service is held.
If you would like to have your loved one’s name read/displayed during this service, please click this event and complete our Google Form, or call our office, 916-446-0121.
The Dharma talk for this service will be given by Sensei Keith Kato.
ABA’s Free Shredding Event
Our Adult Buddhist Association is hosting a free shredding event to help you get started on your Spring Cleaning! It’s easy: Just drive up to our Main Parking Lot and we will unload your car for you! Donations are welcome!
Accepted: Paper with paperclips or staples.
Not Accepted: Cardboard or other non-paper material.
