On the first Sunday of every month, we observe a special memorial service known as Shotsuki Hoyo. This service is dedicated as a time to remember and express gratitude for our family members and friends who have passed away during the month of the year in which the service is held.

Monthly class that focuses on the reading of Tannisho, a two-part work representing a compilation of teachings by Shinran. At each session, parts of Tannisho will be discussed with commentary from scholars. Class is conducted in Japanese.

The Buddhist Church of Sacramento Dharma School is an integral part of the mission of the Betsuin to share the teachings of Shinran Shonin, the founder of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism. An amazing team of volunteer teachers and student teaching assistants lead age-appropriate classes through an engaging and innovative curriculum.

Cars and Coffee
Get your favorite car ready with a wax and a buff for the Cars and Coffee car show event. This is a casual gathering of car enthusiasts. All cars and everyone are welcome. Meet us on Saturday, May 10, from 8-10 a.m. at the Buddhist Church of Sacramento’s main parking lot at 2401 Riverside Blvd.

Obon Cemetery Services
You are invited to join special Obon cemetery services conducted by our ministers at the following locations and times:
Odd Fellows Cemetery - 9:00 AM
Sacramento Memorial Lawn - 10:00 AM
East Lawn - 11:00 AM
Nokotsudo Service - 12:00 PM
Service held in our Hondo, with Nokotsudo visitation following the service.
Bon Odori Festival
Shall we dance?
Join us for the Bon Odori dance festivities starting with the procession of ministers, odori instructors, and dancers from the Hondo to the parking lot at 7:15 PM. The first dance kicks off at 7:30 PM. Our Obon Memorial Tribute video will be played on TV monitors in the courtyard and live-streamed throughout the Bon Odori. To include your loved one in the Obon Tribute video, please complete this form before July 7th.
Food and merchandise concessions will open at 5:00 PM, so arrive early to enjoy dinner before dancing. Savor delicious teriyaki beef sandwiches, Gunther’s freezes, and a variety of other tasty treats. Onibi Beer is back this year and will be available starting at 5:00 PM until supplies last.
The Obon store will also be open, offering a range of Obon gear.

Sacramento Dharma no Kai with Rev. Yuki
Monthly class that focuses on the reading of Tannisho, a two-part work representing a compilation of teachings by Shinran. At each session, parts of Tannisho will be discussed with commentary from scholars. Class is conducted in Japanese.

Rev. Yuki is thrilled that Ichiro Suzuki has been inducted into the 2025 National Baseball Hall of Fame and wants to commemorate this achievement by sharing one of his favorite Kevin Costner films with our community: Field of Dreams.
Rev. Yuki connects the film to Buddhist teachings, reflecting:
“As we live in the wish and ‘dream’ of Amida Buddha, this movie reminds us that we exist within the dreams and hopes of others and highlights the importance of those who support our lives.”

The Buddhist Church of Sacramento Dharma School is an integral part of the mission of the Betsuin to share the teachings of Shinran Shonin, the founder of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism. An amazing team of volunteer teachers and student teaching assistants lead age-appropriate classes through an engaging and innovative curriculum.

On the first Sunday of every month, we observe a special memorial service known as Shotsuki Hoyo. This service is dedicated as a time to remember and express gratitude for our family members and friends who have passed away during the month of the year in which the service is held.

Sacramento Buddhist School - Adult Buddhist Study
Rev. Yuki continues his Sacramento Buddhist School - Adult Study Class on the 4th Friday of each month. If you would like to join for the chanting and etiquette practice, please meet in the Main Hondo at 7:00 pm. If you would like to just attend the class, please come to Classroom 1 at 8:00 pm. To join virtually (at 8:00 pm), please email Rev. Yuki at yukisugahara10012022@buddhistchurch.org to obtain the Zoom link.
Subject Topic for September 2024 thru February 2025 will be Buddhist Art. Please note that Adult Study Class will not meet during November or December 2024.
