Hanamatsuri Service

Hanamatsuri Service

Hanamatsuri commemorates the birth of Prince Siddhartha Gautama, who became the historical Sakyamuni Buddha. The Hanamido, or flower shrine, is a symbol of Lumbini Garden, the place of his birth. According to the ancient legend, the universe was filled with joyful music, flowers bloomed in full glory and sweet rain fell to make this a joyful event.

During this special service, the Sangha offers flowers and pours sweet tea over the statuette of the infant Buddha within the Hanamido. Please join us as we welcome Special Guest Speaker, Professor Mark Unno, University of Oregon.

This year will be extra special as we will have most of the Buddhist Churches of America (BCA) ministers in attendance to perform a special liturgy called “Kanmuryojukyo Saho”. Please join us!
