Satsuki Ina Presents Her Latest Book at the California Museum

On Saturday, November 9, from 1-3 pm, Dr. Satsuki Ina will be speaking at the California Museum to discuss her new book, “The Poet and the Silk Girl:  A Memoir of Love, Imprisonment and Protest.”  The book reflects the quiet courage of 125.000 people of Japanese ancestry who were forcibly imprisoned based on race alone, during World War II.  Using her parents’ letters and her father’s poetry, Dr. Ina captures how they clung to their full humanity in the face of hate and adversity. As a professor, therapist, and activist, she connects her family’s memoir to the anti-Asian hate crimes and fear-mongering that divide our country to this day. It is a beautiful testimony to the resilience of the human spirit.

Dr. Satsuki Ina is a licensed psychotherapist specializing in community trauma.  She is a professor emeritus at California State University, Sacramento, and a past member of our Sacramento Betsuin.  She now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Our Sacramento Betsuin is one of many sponsors of this event. We encourage you to attend and welcome Dr. Ina back to Sacramento.
