Mission & History

Pack 50 has been sponsored by the Buddhist Church of Sacramento since the early 1970’s. Our program centers around encouraging friendship, community service, and fostering the confidence to do their very best no matter the outcome. With the help of powerful learning projects and exciting outdoor activities, we aim to teach children that doing their best can be a fun and rewarding experience—no matter the difficulty of the challenge.

Giving Back to the Community

In April, we regularly participate in community clean-ups and beautification projects as part of Earth Day. Pack 50 contributes community service hours to the church’s annual bazaar in August. In September, we regularly honor our US Veterans with participation in an area Veteran’s Day parade. We also help organize an annual Halloween Party for the youth of the church. In December, we gather toys for foster youth in the county of Sacramento.  

Activities

Our Pack is composed of several Dens of children grouped based on age and current grade level. The Pack meets every month, usually on a Friday evening, and focuses on having fun and awarding achievements earned during the previous month. Each Den meets separately usually twice per month regularly. Activities for each rank will generally cover in an age-appropriate context, broad areas of civic duty, leadership, cooperation with others, emergency preparedness, stewardship of the outdoors and environment, science, and health and wellness.

A typical Den meeting will cover the requirements for completing their rank:

• Kindergarteners: Lion Rank

• 1st Grade: Tiger Rank

• 2nd Grade: Wolf Rank

• 3rd Grade: Bear Rank

• 4th Grade: Webelos

• 5th Grade: Arrow of Light

How to Join

Interested children who meet the school grade qualifications, may enter Pack 50 at any rank. To join, please contact Pack 50 via email at: pack50sacramento@gmail.com

Membership Requirements

• Completion of the BSA Youth Application: https://filestore.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/524-406.pdf 

• Completion of the Pack 50 Parent and Cub Codes of Conduct (made available upon email to: pack50sacramento@gmail.com)

Dues

• Dues are pre-paid for 12 months in advance. 

• Annual dues (as of 11/2023) are $200 for new scouts and $175 for returning scouts. An optional but additional $15 for the BSA magazine, Scout’s Life can be added.

• Checks can be made payable to: “The Buddhist Church of Sacramento” with a memo of “Cub Scouts Pack 50”
