Sacramento Buddhist Women’s Association
The Sacramento Buddhist Women’s Association (SBWA) is the largest organization at our temple. The SBWA is an organization that assists the church in many fundraisers and special events, participates in community service projects outside the temple, and offers social activities for its members.

Mission & History
The mission of the SBWA is to support and serve the Buddhist Church of Sacramento and to promote a better understanding of the Jodo Shinshu teachings.
The Sacramento Buddhist Women’s Association was founded in March 1901 and was known as the Sacramento Bukkyo Fujinkai. It was formerly inaugurated in 1903 by a group of pioneering Issei women. The leadership of this organization was undertaken by the resident minister’s wife until 1960. Currently, the governing Board of Trustees meets on the first Wednesday of the month and is composed of 30 elected members.
How to Become a Member
Please complete the Membership Application Form and submit your membership fee to the address provided in the form. The current annual membership fee is $10 and free for members 80+ (form still required). Membership grants individual voting privileges in the organization.
Activities & Events
SBWA sponsors weekly tai chi, exercise, ukulele, and Bunka classes. SBWA activities include assisting the church with fundraising and special events/projects, as well as, participating in community service projects outside the temple. SBWA also plans fun and interesting social events for our members throughout the year.
