Sports Program

The objective of the Sacramento Betsuin’s Sports Program is to develop organized activities in which our Dharma School children can develop friendships and positive social skills through activities and team sports.  Essential to this goal is to have fun and nurture an understanding of fair play and sportsmanship.

Who We Are

The Betsuin Sports Committee administers the Betsuin Sports Program. We are made up of 12 positions, each having specified duties and responsibilities as established in our Sports Program Bylaws. The Sports Committee meets monthly throughout the year.

The Sports Committee is supported by the Board of Trustees and the Ministers of the Buddhist Church of Sacramento. We are fortunate to have a group of dedicated coaches and leaders made up of parents and young adults, many of whom have grown up through our program.

Basketball

League play begins with the E division (3rd grade) and goes up to B Division (up to 12th grade) for both boys and girls.  All teams play in the Northern California Church League.

Family Bowling

Family Bowling is a recreational non-league outing for adults and youth of all ages.  The season starts mid-October and runs through January. Our games are on Sundays at 1:00 pm and go for approximately 90 minutes. Youth bowlers will receive coaching on skills and etiquette of bowling. Bumper bowling is available for those younger kids that request it.

Participants “pay when you play,” and can just come out whenever they want to bowl and have fun.

Check back in the Fall to sign up for Family Bowling for the 2024 - 2025 season.

Youth Golf Program

The Youth Golf Program is a beginner course for kids of all ages to get their first experience golfing.  The season begins in April and runs through July. They will learn the basics of putting, chipping and hitting the ball; while also learning the etiquette and rules for the game.

The program is geared to help spark the interest in the sport with coaches that have enjoyed playing for years.
